According to Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Day_of_the_DeadDay of the Dead (Spanish: Día de los Muertos) is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and around the world in other cultures. Bead Trunk Show Lands in Urbana, IL at Beads N Botanicals in Central Illinois

ChaCha Beads Trunk Show at Beads N Botanicals in downtown Urbana, IL will offer seed beads in Size 11, 11 hex, 10, 8, 8 hex, 6, triangles, bugles, teardrops and squares. ChaCha travelled to Hiroshima, Japan and Murano, Italy to find new and unusual beads in Fancy Finishes and Great Colors to spark your creative imagination!

Japanese seed beads are precision cut to enable you to make precise designs in woven beadwork. The newest finishes are permanent metallic and anodized beads.

For example, you will find Size 6 and size 8 beads for your kumihimo necklaces and bracelets in hard-to-find colors and finishes.

The Italian beads are different when compared to Japanese or Czech beads. The color you see is the actual color of the glass, not dyed or coated. The Pinks and Purples have real Gold in the glass, causing it to 'strike' different colors when it is made into beads. They are made in small handmade batches, not by machine like the other seed beads, making them unique. These are not available anywhere else but ChaCha Beads

The show will take place September 27, 28, & 29 and
October 4, 5 & 6th our classroom at the shop.

Fridays, September 27th and October 4th, we will stay open until 7pm to allow later shopping.

PLEASE NOTE: NO DISCOUNTS allowed on show beads.

Trunk show opens on Friday, September 27th @4pm to 7pm
Saturday, September 28th from 10am to 5pm

Saturday, October 5th from 10am to 5pm
Sunday, October 6th from 12noon to 5pm

If you've never participated in a bead trunk show, the concept is pretty simple. Think of a traveling bead show where you can find all sorts of treasures, but for a limited time. Cha Cha Beads will ship a huge selection to our shop. When the show is finished, we return whatever beads remain back to Cha Cha.

This enables us to offer you a much larger selection of beads. In the Champaign-Urbana area, you will not find a larger, more complete, or fantastic selection of seed beads than you will find at this show. We hope you will enjoy ChaCha Beads as much as we do.

Keeping Healthy with Kitchen Herbs: Parsley, Sage, Rosemary & Thyme

Keeping healthy with kitchen herbs means thinking of ways to use your kitchen spice shelf as a medicinal resource. If you do little cooking, or if your spices are more than a year old, you'll need to get a fresh supply. Good quality spices make for tastier foods as well as more effective medicine. (Please note: if you have a serious medical condition, please consult a medical practitioner.)
Sometimes the simplest of kitchen spices that we take for granted are among the most useful medicinally. Of the following four herbs, three of them contain very strong essential oils that can really aid in fighting off illness.
Parsley, while not as strong as its other companions, nonetheless is a very useful herb. Parsley, Petroselinum crispum, a member of the Umbelliferae family, acts as a diuretic, expectorant, emmenogogue, carminative and, according to some, may even be an aprodisiac. (So in a restaurant, eat parsley, rather than throwing it out.)
Medicinally, parsley has several uses. First, because of its diuretic action, it helps the body gently get rid of excess water. As an emmenogogue, parsley can be used to bring on the menstrual period, so it is recommended that pregnant women avoid consuming medicinal dosages of it. Another use of the herb is as a carminative, which can ease flatulence.
Sage, Salvia officinalis, decreases secretions of all kinds—whether from lactation, sweating, salivation or especially from excessive mucus secretions of the sinuses and bronchi. Brew a strong tea from sage leaves for a good gargle for sore throats, for sage is antiseptic.
Sometimes when I have a runny nose and I want to sleep without dripping all over the place, I will brew up a cup of tea about a half hour before going to bed. I find this often drys up my sinuses enough to allow me to sleep easier.
Rosemary, Rosmarinus officinalis, is an antioxidant, astringent, somewhat antibacterial, carminative, antiseptic, cholagogue, diaphoretic, diuretic, emmenogogue (stimulates menstruation) and nervine.
Its antioxidant properties are one of the reasons rosemary is used so extensively in cooking. In the days before refrigeration, spices helped to preserve food.
Because rosemary helps increase blood circulation and strengthens the capillaries (small blood vessels), it can have an uplifting and strengthening effect on your brain, and therefore, the herb has a reputation for being good for poor memory.
Rosemary is a diaphoretic for colds, flu and fever. It can help to relieve tension headaches. You can also inhale it for bronchial/lung infections or sinus infections. Rosemary is contraindicated (in other words, do not use) in medicinal doses during pregnancy. In Europe, rosemary is known as a liver herb. It especially helps the body in digesting fats.
Powdered rosemary is antiseptic and can be placed on minor cuts and scrapes.

Blue Chalcedony's Crystal Healing Properties

Chalcedony absorbs negativity and promote harmonious emotions. Blue Chalcedony is often used during public speaking, which is not a surprise to me as blue crystals are usually associated with the Throat Chakra.

Some say Blue Chalcedony aids telepathic communication, as well as assists in spirit communication with other realms, especially the Angelic Realm. This healing crystal may give relief from depression and is even said to boost the immune system. Blue Chalcedony’s soothing energies also come through during mediation or energy work.

We now have some beautiful larger tumbled blue chalcedony available at the shop ~C

New Tarot Decks feature intriguing artwork

If you haven't been to Beads N Botanicals in downtown Urbana, IL in a while, you've got to stop in. Why? Because there's lots of fun & fascinating new items at the shop.

In addition to carrying the "standard" decks, such as the Rider Tarot and Thoth Tarot decks or Gypsy Witch Fortune Telling Playing Cards, we have many "nonstandard" but beautifully drawn oracle and tarot decks including the following decks:

In The Archeon Tarot deck, Artist Timothy Lantz has skillfully woven together intriguing elements from mythology and mysticism to create a hauntingly beautiful tarot deck.  For each card in this 78-card deck, Lantz’s booklet offers a thoughtful quote leading into the interpretation, with an upright and inverted meaning given.

Newly published tarot with beautiful imagery. The Tarot of the Hidden Realm evokes the powerful wisdom of the fae. This powerful deck uses the raw elements—water, air, fire, and earth—to speak directly to one's emotions. The beautifully drawn figures follow the Rider Waite style, but express more energy and movement.
